📞 On the phone or when saying a CEP (zip code), Brazilians often say meia instead of seis for the digit 6.

Only 1 and 2 change with gender in Portuguese.

🏨 o hotel × 🏡 a pousada — this pair actually follows the classic pattern: words ending in a consonant are usually masculine (o hotel), and words ending in -a are usually feminine (a pousada). Beyond the grammar: a hotel is usually bigger, with more services — reception desk, restaurant, room service, pool. A pousada is smaller and more intimate, often family-run, with fewer rooms.
Cultural note — what's a pousada?
🇧🇷 A pousada is Brazil's version of what Americans call a "bed and breakfast" — a small, cozy inn, often run by a family, with just a handful of rooms and a much more personal feel than a big hotel chain. Pousadas are extremely popular in beach towns and historic cities all over Brazil, and are often cheaper and more charming than a standard hotel.
