Eu corro duas vezes por semana.I run twice a week.
Todos os dias eu bebo muita água.Every day I drink a lot of water.
Ela medita de manhã.She meditates in the morning.
Nos fins de semana, nós relaxamos. On weekends, we relax.
Cultural note — walking groups in Brazil. Along the seafront of almost every coastal Brazilian city — Boa Viagem in Recife, Copacabana in Rio, Beira-Mar in Florianópolis — you will find grupos de caminhada out before sunrise. They are as much social as physical: people greet one another with bom dia even without knowing each other, and the walk usually ends with conversation and a coffee. In many cities these groups are organized free of charge by the posto de saúde of the neighborhood, as part of the public health system (SUS).

Homework Exercises

1

Comprehension

Answer in Portuguese, using complete sentences

Answer in Portuguese, based on the three profiles.

How often does Dona Marlene walk on the seafront?
What does Dona Marlene drink before the walk?
How often does Bruno run?
What does Camila eat in the morning?
And you? How often do you walk?
Question 1

Seis dias por semana.

Question 2

Ela bebe água.

Question 3

Às vezes.

Question 4

Ela come frutas.

Question 5

Resposta pessoal.

2

Add the frequency word

Rewrite each sentence, placing the word or expression correctly

Rewrite each sentence, adding the word or expression in parentheses in the correct position.

Exemplo: Eu como frutas de manhã. (geralmente) → Eu geralmente como frutas de manhã.

1. Eu sempre bebo água durante o dia.

2. Meu irmão corre na praia três vezes por semana.

3. Nós geralmente cozinhamos as refeições em casa.

4. Eles nunca fumam.

5. Ela medita à noite todos os dias.

6. Eu viajo com a minha família uma vez por ano.

7. Você sempre relaxa no fim de semana?

8. Marcos raramente come fast food.

Note: in items 2, 5 and 6, starting the sentence with the long expression is equally correct — e.g. "Três vezes por semana, meu irmão corre na praia." The mistake to correct is placing it between the subject and the verb.

3

About yourself

Write true sentences, choosing a frequency word for each one

Write true sentences about yourself. Choose a frequency word or expression for each one, and be careful with its position.

6. Eu quase sempre preparo as refeições.

7. Eu nunca medito à noite.

8. Eu geralmente relaxo no fim de semana.

These are personal answers — yours will be different. Just double-check the position: one-word adverb between subject and verb, longer expression at the start or end. And remember: sentences with "nunca" don't take another negation — "Eu nunca medito" ✓, not "Eu nunca não medito" ✗.

4

A fourth profile

Complete with the verbs in parentheses in the present tense

Complete Seu Jorge's profile with the correct present-tense form of each verb.
