The simple future: what will happen
The futuro do presente is the "simple future" — it corresponds to will + verb in English. In everyday spoken Brazilian Portuguese, people usually prefer ir + infinitivo ("vou viajar"), but the futuro do presente is very common in writing, the news, formal speech, and predictions — so you need to recognize and use it too.
Good news about formation: unlike most other tenses, the futuro do presente is built directly on the infinitive of the verb (not a stem) — which makes it one of the most regular tenses in the language. Just add the ending to the whole infinitive.

Language Note — Futuro do Pretérito (Condicional)
The conditional: what would happen
Also called the condicional, this tense corresponds to would + verb in English. We use it for hypothetical situations (usually with "se" — if), polite requests, and giving advice.
Formation is just as easy: take the exact same base you used for the futuro do presente (the infinitive, or far-/dir-/trar- for the 3 irregulars) and simply change the ending to -ia, -ia, -ia, -íamos, -iam.

Language Note — Imperfeito com valor de condicional
The everyday shortcut Brazilians actually use
In formal writing, the condicional (compraria, viajaria, seria...) is the "correct" choice. But in everyday spoken Brazilian Portuguese, native speakers very often replace it with the pretérito imperfeito instead — especially in "se" (if) sentences. Both mean exactly the same thing; only the register changes.
"Se eu ganhasse na loteria, eu compraria uma casa." (formal/written) and "Se eu ganhasse na loteria, eu comprava uma casa." (informal/spoken) are both correct and both mean "If I won the lottery, I would buy a house."
