Grammar 2
Expressões de negação enfática
Two strong negatives from the dialogue:

Notes
De jeito nenhum!
No way! / Absolutely not!
Very common in spoken BP. Stronger than a simple "não".
Não quero nada.
I don't want anything.
"Nada" = nothing. In BP, double negatives are standard: não quero nada (not I don't want nothing — it's just correct).
Other useful strong negatives: Jamais! (Never!), De forma alguma! (In no way!), Nem pensar! (Don't even think about it!)
Phonology
🔊 "Mulher" como vocativo — e o dígrafo lh
"Mulher" (woman/girl) is used as a friendly address term in Brazilian Portuguese — similar to "girl" in English. It's warm and informal, used between close friends.
The lh combination creates a unique sound: like the "lli" in "million" — mu·LHER. There is no equivalent in English.
Practice the lh sound in: mulher · filho · trabalho · olho · folha · vermelho
Tip: Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth (as if to say "L") and let air flow through the sides — then add the vowel. It's a lateral palatal sound.
Culture
👗 Tamanhos de roupa no Brasil e a cultura do corpo
Brazilian clothing sizes use letter codes: P (Pequeno/Small), M (Médio/Medium), G (Grande/Large), GG (Extra Grande/Extra Large), EG/EGG (for larger sizes).
Brazilians are often very direct when talking about body image — commenting on weight is culturally common and not always considered rude, especially among close friends or family. However, attitudes are shifting, particularly among younger generations. The expression "estou gorda" reflects a temporary self-assessment, not an insult, while the response "você não está gorda" is a typical way to reassure someone.
