Step 1 — Listen

🎧 Listen to the episode
First listen: Just relax and listen. Try to understand the general situation — who is arriving, and what happens?
Língua da Gente · Episode 05
🔊 Pronunciation note: Notice the open "Ô" at the start — it's a wide, open oh sound (like "awe" in English), different from the closed o in words like com. Brazilians also say Posso with a double ss = /s/, never /z/.

Step 2 — Read the dialogue

📄 The dialogue
Read along while you listen a second time. Pay attention to how Paulo asks for permission to enter.
A:
Ô de casa!
Anybody home!
B:
Quem está aí?
Who's there?
A:
Sou eu, Paulo. Posso entrar?
It's me, Paulo. Can I come in?
B:
Pode, fica à vontade.
Sure, make yourself at home.
🇧🇷 Nota cultural: In Brazil, it's common to call out "Ô de casa!" at the gate or door instead of knocking — especially at someone's home (not a building entrance). It's friendly and informal. The host's reply "Pode, fica à vontade" is the classic Brazilian hospitality formula, equivalent to "come on in, make yourself at home."
