Read the dialogue

Two friends debate the pros and cons of shopping online versus at physical stores.

A: Ô Daniela, você quase só compra online, não é?

Hey Daniela, you almost just buy things online, right?

B: Quase 100%. É muito mais conveniente, e mais barato também.

Almost 100%. It's much more convenient, and it's cheaper too.

A: Mas você não tem medo que alguém vai roubar sua identidade?

But aren't you afraid that someone will steal your identity?

B: Não, aliás, acho que é mais seguro do que comprar nas lojas.

No, in fact, I think it is more secure than buying at the stores.

A: Por quê? Nas lojas a gente nem precisa pensar nessas coisas.

Why? At the stores you don't even need to think about such things.

B: Exato, online já tem mais controle e é mais seguro.

Exactly, online you have more control and it is more secure.

Não é? — tag question de confirmação

English: right? / isn't that so? (confirmation tag)

Não é? is a universal tag added to the end of a statement to check the listener agrees — works regardless of the verb or subject in the main sentence, much like English "right?" or "isn't it?"

Você quase só compra online, não é?
You almost just buy things online, right? Vocês vão à festa, não é?
You're going to the party, right?

Mais... do que — comparativo de superioridade

English: more... than (comparing two things)

Mais + adjective + do que compares two things, saying one has more of a quality than the other — the standard Portuguese comparative of superiority.

É mais seguro do que comprar nas lojas.
It's more secure than buying at the stores. Este celular é mais caro do que aquele.
This phone is more expensive than that one.

Ter medo que & vocabulário de compras online

English: to be afraid that... + online shopping vocabulary

Ter medo que introduces a worry or fear about a possible outcome — a natural way to voice a concern in conversation.

Você não tem medo que alguém vai roubar sua identidade?
Aren't you afraid that someone will steal your identity? Loja — store · Roubar — to steal
Seguro — safe/secure · Conveniente — convenient

🛒 Culture note Online shopping has grown enormously in Brazil, with platforms like Mercado Livre and Shopee dominating — but many Brazilians still voice the same identity-theft and security worries heard in this dialogue, especially older generations more used to shopping in person.

🔊 Phonology note Notice the reduction "tá" isn't used here, but "a gente" replaces "nós" throughout — a hallmark of everyday spoken Brazilian Portuguese that always takes third-person singular verb conjugation.
