A hotel guest asks the staff about breakfast — and arrives with barely any time to spare.

A: Bom dia, onde é o café da manhã, por favor?

Good morning, where is breakfast, please?

B: Lá em frente, no outro lado desse corredor.

Up ahead, on the other side of the hallway.

A: Obrigada, você sabe até que hora eles servem o café?

Thank you, do you know up to what time do they serve breakfast?

B: Até às 9:00hrs, ah desculpa, hoje é sábado, até às 10:30hrs.

Until 9:00 o'clock, oh, excuse me, today is Saturday, until 10:30.

A: E já são quase às 10:00, né?

And it's already almost 10:00 o'clock, right?

B: Não tem problema, senhora. Fica à vontade.

No problem ma'am. Stay as long as you like.

Focus 1

Até que hora...? / Até às...

English: Until what time...? / Until [time]...

Até que hora asks about a closing or ending time, and até às + time gives the answer: "até que hora eles servem o café?" = "up to what time do they serve breakfast?" — "até às 9:00" = "until 9:00."

Você sabe até que hora eles servem o café?
Do you know until what time they serve breakfast? Até às 9:00hrs, hoje até às 10:30hrs.
Until 9:00, today until 10:30.

Fica à vontade — expressão de hospitalidade

English: Make yourself at home / take your time / no rush

Fica à vontade is a warm, very Brazilian expression used to reassure a guest that there's no need to worry or rush — literally "stay at will."

Não tem problema, senhora. Fica à vontade.
No problem, ma'am. Stay as long as you like. Entra, senta, fica à vontade!
Come in, sit down, make yourself at home!

Focus 3

Quase às... & vocabulário do café da manhã

English: almost [time]... + hotel/breakfast vocabulary

Quase às + time gives an approximate time: "já são quase às 10:00" = "it's already almost 10:00."

🥐 Culture note Brazilian hotels are known for generous breakfast spreads (fresh fruit, breads, cheeses, cakes) — and staff being flexible and warm about a guest cutting it close to closing time, as shown by B's relaxed "fica à vontade," is a very typical touch of Brazilian hospitality.

🔊 Phonology note Notice how às (to/at, before a time) contracts the preposition a with the article as, and carries a nasal-ish, closed "a" sound — different from the open "a" in words like fala.
