Read the dialogue

A friend explains camera shooting modes and ISO settings to someone getting into photography.

A: Ô Marilene, você sabe muita coisa sobre fotografia, não é?

Hey Marilene, you know a lot about photography, right?

B: Mais ou menos, por que?

More or less, why?

A: Bom, tirando fotos de aves e animais, que modo de disparo você prefere?

When taking pictures of birds and animals, which shooting mode do you prefer?

B: Depende, a prioridade do obturador é boa pra congelar o movimento, por exemplo esses pássaros que batem as asas rapidamente.

It depends, shutter priority is good to freeze the movement, for example the birds that beat their wings rapidly.

A: E a prioridade de abertura?

And aperture priority?

B: Eu gosto mais de abertura para desfocar o fundo.

I like that more to blur the background.

A: OK, e o ISO, qual é melhor?

And how about ISO, which is better?

B: Quanto menor que fica, menos que gera ruído, tenta com 100 ou 200 primeiro.

The lower it is, the less noise is generated, try with 100 or 200 first.

A: Como é que você sabe tudo isso mulher?

How do you know about this girl?

B: Bom, muita tentativa e muitos erros, e um bom tripé!

Well, a lot of trial and error, and a good tripod!

English: it depends (on the situation)

Depende (alone, or followed by de + noun) is the natural response when there's no single fixed answer — very common in advice-giving.

Depende, a prioridade do obturador é boa pra congelar o movimento.
It depends, shutter priority is good for freezing movement.Depende do dia.
It depends on the day.

Focus 2

Quanto menor, menos — Correlative comparatives

English: the lower it is, the less... (correlative comparative)

Quanto menor/mais...mais/menos links two comparatives together — like English "the more/less...the more/less."

Quanto menor que fica, menos que gera ruído.
The lower it is, the less noise it generates.Quanto mais você pratica, melhor você fica.
The more you practice, the better you get.
