Read the dialogue

Two friends on a hot day talk about their favorite comfortable summer clothes — and end up borrowing a blouse.

A: Fala o que quiser, mas nada é melhor do que usar shorts e camisetas.

Say what you will, but nothing is better than wearing shorts and t-shirts.

B: É verdade, especialmente nesses dias de calor.

That's true, especially on these hot days.

A: E sabe o que mais? Adoro rasteirinha, tênis, ou chinelo mesmo.

And you know what else? I really love sandals, tennis shoes, or flip flops.

B: Eu concordo, o conforto sempre ganha, né?

Agreed, comfort always wins out, right?

Nada é melhor do que — comparativo superlativo

English: nothing is better than (a strong comparative used to express a clear favorite)

Nada é melhor do que + infinitivo/substantivo is a natural way to express a strong preference or favorite in everyday conversation.

Nada é melhor do que usar shorts e camisetas.
Nothing is better than wearing shorts and t-shirts. Nada é melhor do que um café quentinho de manhã.
Nothing is better than a nice hot coffee in the morning.

Sabe o que mais? — marcador conversacional

English: you know what else? (a discourse marker used to add extra information)

Sabe o que mais? is a very common conversational filler in spoken Brazilian Portuguese, used to introduce an additional point, opinion, or piece of information — signaling "and there's more to say."

E sabe o que mais? Adoro rasteirinha, tênis, ou chinelo mesmo.
And you know what else? I really love sandals, sneakers, or flip flops. Sabe o que mais? Eu nem gosto de praia.
You know what else? I don't even like the beach.

Focus 3

Diminutivo -inha & vocabulário de roupas de verão

English: the diminutive suffix -inha + summer clothing vocabulary

-inha attached to an adjective adds a warm, affectionate or diminishing nuance — estampadinha ("cutely patterned") sounds softer and friendlier than plain estampada.

Me empresta aquela blusa azul estampadinha?

👗 Culture note In Brazil's hot climate, "praticidade" (practicality) rules summer fashion — flip-flops (chinelos, especially the iconic Havaianas brand) and flat sandals (rasteirinhas) are worn everywhere, from the beach to casual errands, not just as swimwear accessories.

🔊 Phonology note Notice how -inha shifts stress: estampada (es-tam-PA-da) becomes estampadinha (es-tam-pa-DI-nha) — the new stressed syllable falls right before the suffix.
