B	Bom, eu nem sei — até que idade é normal que criança faça xixi na cama?	Well, I'm not sure — up to what age is it normal for kids to wet the bed?
A	Sei, não. A Marina me disse que criança até 5 anos ainda pode fazer xixi uma ou duas vezes por semana.	I don't know. Marina told me that kids up to five can still wet the bed once or twice a week.
B	Então, o Marquinhos está nessa faixa ainda. Agora, no caso dele, você acha que ele faz sem querer, ou é só preguiça dele mesmo?	So Mark is still within that range. Now, do you think he does it on accident, or is he just being lazy?

I could make a calendar to put stickers — little stars to reward him for every night he wakes up dry, right?
B	Concordo. A gente não pode ficar com raiva, nem xingar ele, nem humilhá-lo, não é? Acho que com tempo, isso se resolve sem maiores problemas.	I agree. We shouldn't get upset, or yell at him, or embarrass him. I think with time this will sort itself out without any major issues.

Subjuntivo Presente — novos gatilhos

You saw the subjuntivo presente in Episode 01 with querer que, é melhor que, é possível que. This episode brings three new trigger expressions — same pattern, new contexts.

How to form it: take the eu form of the verb in the present tense, drop the -o, and add the opposite vowel endings.

-AR verbs → endings in -E

beber → bebo → beba

💬 botar vs. colocar — Both mean "to put/place", but botar is the everyday informal choice across Brazil: para botar adesivos (to put stickers). You'll hear it constantly in casual speech.

Vogais nasais — the sound that marks Brazilian Portuguese

This dialogue is full of Brazil's most distinctive sounds: nasal vowels. Unlike English, where nasality is a side-effect of nasal consonants (m, n), Portuguese has intrinsically nasal vowels — the nose vibrates even without a following consonant.

Listen for these in the dialogue: não, Antônio, criança, também, amiguinhos, nenhum. Notice how the vowel itself hums — it's not just the -n- doing the work.

The three nasal sounds to practice:

A friend messages you: "My 4-year-old is still wetting the bed. I don't know what to do!" Write 4–5 sentences of advice in Portuguese. Use at least two trigger expressions from the lesson (é normal que, é importante que, evite que, acho melhor que…) and at least one expression from the dialogue (sem querer, entrar em pânico, sem maiores problemas…).
