Acabar de + Infinitivo — o passado bem recente

The interview opens with "Você acaba de ganhar a medalha de prata..." — the structure acabar de + infinitivo talks about something that just happened, a moment ago. It's conjugated in the present tense (acabar), but the meaning is about the immediate past.

Nasalização por vizinhança

Not all nasal sounds in Portuguese are marked with a til (~) or tilde-like accent. Words like tentativa, sensação, and representar nasalize a vowel simply because it's followed by m or n in the same syllable — even without any written nasal marker.

Try saying tentativa slowly: the first "en" comes out nasalized, almost like English "ten" but through the nose. This is different from — but related to — the nasal vowels marked with ã/ão you may already know; here, the nasalization is "borrowed" from the neighboring consonant.

Free production — Uma conquista recente

Think of something you (or someone you know) just accomplished — a competition, a project, an exam. Write 5–6 lines in Portuguese as if answering an interview. Include: at least one sentence with acabar de + infinitivo, and a short narrated sequence using three verbs in the pretérito perfeito (like peguei... decolei... passei).
