Jackson do Pandeiro · from the album Sina de Cigarra, 1972 · composed by Ivo Marins and Jackson do Pandeiro
A comic love declaration built on one giant exaggeration: the singer says he's so soft and crazy about someone that he might as well be made of butter — he could melt right there. The song moves between two moods — a dramatic, over-the-top declaration, and a pair of affectionate requests, which is exactly what we'll use to study the Imperativo Negativo.

Grammar
A declaration and two requests
The song has two very different parts. In the chorus he describes how he feels, using the Present Indicative and a huge exaggeration. In the verse, he asks for something, and the Negative Imperative appears, with the same verb repeated in both requests: eu demoro → não demore.

The não… não of spoken Portuguese
💬 One "não" too many — on purpose
In spoken Brazilian Portuguese, speakers often add a second não at the end of the sentence. It doesn't cancel the first one — it softens the request and makes it warmer and more personal.
Não demore. → Não demore não. Não saia agora. → Não saia agora não.
Tip: this belongs to speech and informal writing — messages, songs, conversation. It does not belong in formal writing.
Pronúncia — the ei that becomes e
🔊 manteiga [mã.ˈte.gɐ] — written ei, sounds like [e]: "mantega" 🔊 beijo [ˈbe.ʒu] — same pattern: "bejo"
Tip: in Brazilian Portuguese, ei reduces to [e] before certain consonants. You'll hear this constantly — and almost never see it written that way: manteiga → mantega, beijo → bejo, queijo → quejo, primeira → primera.
Cultural context
🥁 Jackson do Pandeiro, o Rei do Ritmo
Jackson do Pandeiro (1919–1982) was born in Alagoa Grande, in the state of Paraíba, and is one of the great names of Northeastern Brazilian music, alongside Luiz Gonzaga. His mother was a singer and percussionist; he wanted an accordion, but the family couldn't afford one and bought him a pandeiro (tambourine) instead — hence the nickname. He moved with equal ease between coco, forró, baião, xote, and samba, and became famous for his razor-sharp diction and rhythmic mastery. "Feito de Manteiga" is a comic love declaration: the singer melts completely and begs for a kiss that never comes.
