Onde está o falante? — A simple rule to remember
Ask yourself: “Where is the speaker’s reference point?”
trazer ↘
Toward the speaker (or the speaker’s destination) → trazer (bring)
levar ↗
Away from the speaker (or the speaker’s reference point) → levar (take)
Exemplo 1 — a mesma pessoa, a mesma situação
Você está no escritório e diz:
— Eu trouxe os documentos para o escritório. (vieram para AQUI — onde estou)
— À noite, vou levá-los para casa. (vão para OUTRO LUGAR — longe daqui)
Exemplo 2 — perspectiva diferente, verbos opostos
O Pedro está no restaurante e esqueceu a carteira. Ele liga para a esposa:
— Você pode trazer a carteira? (Pedro quer que ela venha para onde ELE está)
A esposa responde:
— Claro, vou levá-la para você. (ela sai de onde ELA está e vai até o restaurante)
💡 A regra não muda com o tempo verbal nem com quem fala — o que muda é onde a pessoa que fala está no momento da frase.

Levar, Trazer ou Pegar?

Read each situation carefully. Remember: the reference point is always where YOU (the speaker) are. Trazer = someone/something comes towards me. Levar = someone/something goes away from me. Pegar = picking up / grabbing / using transport.

Write your own WhatsApp messages.
Write 5–7 messages for a group chat. You are at home, organizing a dinner at your place tonight. Ask people to bring things (trazer), ask someone to pick something up on the way (pegar), and offer to drive a friend home after dinner (levar). Use all three verbs at least once each.
